Look at that sky! What a day for the beach... oh, this is the beach... where is the sand? No sand, smooth pebbles varying in size from a small perfume bottle, up to small boulders about a metre across, but most were about the size of a fist. Difficult to walk on wearing thongs (jandals, flip flops, etc), and down a steep descent. No place to build a sandcastle. Where is the water? It is an estuarine beach, part of the Severn, and right now it is low low tide.
In it's heyday, the Knap was a vibrant summer destination with a large seawater pool, a boating lake, a fancy ballroom and one of Wales' oldest sports clubs. Now it is a calm and relaxing place to visit, but the town does not sell fish and chips.
